Kenneth Rowntree

  Born 1915, Scarborough, Yorkshire. Studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing, Oxford 1930 -34 under Albert Rutherston and at the Slade Scool under Prof. Schwabe 1934 - 35. During WWII was official war artist recording buildings that might be at risk from bombing or invasion for the Pilgrim Trust.
Member of the Society of Mural Painters and taught mural painting at the RCA 1948 - 58.
Elected Professor of Fine Art , University of Durham 1959 - 90.
Work represented in many collections including the Tate and the V&A.
