The painting, being still in its original frame, was photographed under glass and the light marks visible are only reflection picked up by the camera
is often considered to be the original Newlyn painter, settling there around the late 1870's and leaving by 1884, at the same time as the village was started to be colonised by other artists. He painted mostly small oil panels of the coast and fishing boats around Newlyn.
He was living in Plymouth in 1884 and by 1894 had moved to Saltash. This watercolour probably dates from this period, having the original Plymouth framers label still on the back.
