was born in Brenford, Essex where his father was the owner of "The Royal Brenford Brewery". He showed early promise as an artist and exhibited views of the Dutch coast at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 1878. He made several trips to Cornwall before settling here in 1894 when he opened his own studio and gallery in Newquay. He travelled around the British Isles and made some tours of the continent, most notably a visit to the South of France 1n 1910 / 11.
